MacDonald's In China Tenders Apology For Saying Blacks Are Not Allowed In The Restaurant

A McDonald’s restaurant located in Guangzhou, China has temporarily been shutdown after putting a sign that reads: “We’ve been informed that from now on Black people are not allowed to enter the restaurant” on display.

There is rising tension in the city, which is known to be a hub for African traders and home to China’s largest African communities, after some online rumors claimed that Africans were spreading the coronavirus.

A statement issued by McDonald’s issued after the BBC reported on the disclaimer in their restaurant, reads, “Immediately upon learning of an unauthorized communication to our guests at a restaurant in Guangzhou, we immediately removed the communication and temporarily closed the restaurant.” McDonald’s also revealed that a “diversity and inclusion” training would be conducted at the store.
