Rumor has it that Apple has been working on a pair of augmented reality glasses. A new patent suggest that the device which is still a work in progress, may be able to adjust how opaque the lenses are, which could help solve a major issue that AR glasses might face.

Other augmented reality glasses work nicely but in an environment with bright lighting, it can difficult to view the image being projected over your environment. These new glasses could be a fix for that.

This groundbreaking technology could help the glasses block things other than the projected image out and help it function like virtual reality glasses.

This patent notes that a light source could automatically trigger an adjustment of the opacity of the glasses, and that the glasses might feature a gaze-tracking system using a built-in camera, to help detect where on the display the user is looking.

The date for the arrival of these glasses it yet to be known, so is the actual image of the glasses. We are left to wait and see what Apple has in store.
