Video Of Disgusting Sewage Disposal In Mexican Beach Causes Outrage

The coastline of famed Mexican beach resort Acapulco was soiled late last week due to a large discharge of raw sewage. A video which has now gone viral captured the incident. This has prompted local officials to promise an investigation and to fix broken drains.

The video was taken from a nearby balcony. A high-pressure stream of raw sewage can be seen flowing into the water from just off of Acapulco’s Icacos Beach, probably from a nearby ruptured sewer line. The beach is a popular Mexican tourist attraction and is a few meters from a local hotel. “It was very stinky and made me nauseous,” a witness who asked to remain anonymous told Reuters. The witness added that the filthy discharge lasted about 25 minutes.

State environmental authorities revealed on Sunday that an investigation into the incident, which was dated to have taken place on June 25, has begun and a formal complaint filed with Mexico’s federal environmental prosecutor. The agency is asking that the discharge be treated as a federal crime. According to the State officials, initial reports show that the discharge may have been caused by a broken sewer line, potentially overflowing due to heavy rainfall in recent days which has caused flooding in several Acapulco neighborhoods.

Complaints about leaky sewage pipes regularly sending untreated waste into Acapulco Bay have been made over the years by locals.

Authorities say that state officials have been dispatched to the area to clean nearby drainage channels.
