Social Gathering Order Relaxed In Bayelsa State, 200 May Now Gather While Observing Social Distancing

Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has permitted churches with big auditoriums to have members around during Sunday services but has limited the number of people for the service to 200.

A statement given on Wednesday by the Chairman of the state COVID-19 Task Force’s sub-committee on churches, Pastor Samuel John-Peters carried this information.

Governor Diri had directed two weeks ago that big churches could accommodate 50 worshippers during services, while small churches could have 20.

John-Peters said that the churches must make sure their members observe social distancing.

He said it has been made compulsory for churches to provide hand sanitisers, running water and soaps at their entrances, and ensure the use of face mask by all worshippers.

He also said that no directive pertaining to midweek activities has been given by the governor, but that “the 8pm to 6am curfew is still in force.”

John-Peters advised that pastors strictly comply with the rules and regulations guiding safety under the pandemic.
