Saudi Arabia Has Set Up Self-Sanitizing Gates In The Mecca Grand Mosque

The General Presidency of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque launched self-sterilizing gates at the Mecca’s Grand Mosque entrance as a contribution to reducing the coronavirus outbreak, as reported by Saudi Press Agency (SPA) on Thursday .

To enter the mosque’s courtyards, people must pass through the gate which sterilizes them from head to toe by use of a sanitizing spray. Thermal cameras were installed a week before the installation of these gates at Islam’s holiest site, the Kaaba in the Grand Mosque in Mecca.

The cameras can scan the temperatures of up to 25 people at the same time, and are also placed at the entrances of the courtyards.

A set of cameras with the same capabilities were put up in the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina earlier in the month.

The holy sites were closed to the public by the authorities as part of measures to hinder the spread of the coronavirus.

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Islamic Affairs in April debunked rumors of mosques across the Kingdom reopening soon for congressional prayers after the coronavirus pandemic forced their closure last month.
