A nearly full version of Photoshop has been designed to work with the iPad tablet. Reportedly, it has not been an easy task but the iPad Photoshop app is designed to be as close to the desktop software as possible. The iPad app is built from the same code base as the desktop version.
Photoshop for iPad is available at no additional charge for Creative Cloud subscribers with access to the desktop version, unsubscribed users will have to sign up for a subscription, the cheapest of which is the $9.99 Photography plan that includes Lightroom and Photoshop. The mobile version of Photoshop is only available for iPads running iOS 13.1 and later on the App Store.
The Apple Pencil makes selecting an object or drawing on a photograph easier than a mouse and there’s the size advantage of a tablet compared to a computer.
The Photoshop for iPad doesn’t have all the features of the desktop Photoshop but Adobe says that more features will be added over time. It has a new Cloud PSD file format, which allows users to sync edits across the tablet and desktop.
The iPad app features a toolbar on the left, housing tools which including the brush, type, clone stamp, healing brush, and lasso. Layer panels are on the right, along with tools for photo editing like brightness, contrast, hue, and saturation, and levels. There are also panels for image adjustments with layer masks, gradients, and blend modes.
Adobe has plans to update the Photoshop for iPad faster and more frequently giving the team more time to get feedback from users and add new features gradually.
