DisCos In Agreement With FG To Give 2 Months Free Electricity To Nigerians

DisCos, the Electricity Distribution Companies revealed on Wednesday that they have agreed with the federal government to provide Nigerians who are their customers with two months of free electricity nationwide.

A statement by the Executive Director, Research and Advocacy at the Association of Nigeiarian Electricity Distributors (ANED), Barrister Sunday Oduntan, informed that the decision was made due to the recognition of just how challenging the effects of the coronavirus is on the economic and daily lives of the customers.

Barrister Sunday, also the spokesperson for DisCos said “We are also completely aligned with the plans to ensure palliative measures, including free electricity supply to all Nigerians for two months, to make life easier, during the lockdown period. Details of implementation to come soon.” He mentioned that the move is to fulfill the commitments of DisCos to the nation and they are aligned with the National Assembly and the Federal Executive to lessen the gravity of the hardship being faced by Nigerians due to the coronavirus.

The DisCos praised the lawmakers, the Executive arm and the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) for their initiative stating their commiment to working with them to ensure more efficient power supply within the difficult period.
